Job Description

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ASSISTANTOffice of Strategic Alliances and Technology Transfer (OSATT)-Technology Licensing Office (TLO), to support activity involved in the protection of MIT’s intellectual assets under the supervision of the associate director of intellectual property. Will manage the patent administration group’s centralized reporting email system and support requests from and communications with outside legal counsel; validate reporting emails against data in an internal database, triaging emails and patent documents within the TLO and electronically filing and archiving these reporting emails; and assist with vetting entity size data, managing all documents requiring signature by TLO’s law firms and managing the work estimates and the approval process for hourly work done by outside counsel.  

 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent; at least five years of administrative, office, or related experience; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and data entry, database systems, and data management; and comfort managing different types of patent records/documents and ability to differentiate legal documents.  Must be able to quickly comprehend complex materials and processes; assess large quantities of information, anticipate issues, and work with limited guidance; efficiently prioritize, meet deadlines, and perform multiple job responsibilities; and work independently and as part of a team.  PREFERRED: bachelor’s degree and experience working with confidential materials and/or in a legal/patent environment.
