Alnylam is seeking an energetic, organized person for a position at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals to help lead shipping and receiving activities at primarily our facilities in Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA. This person will be is responsible for directing and overseeing all shipping and receiving related operations and laboratory activities. This position will play a key role in seamless material flow from external vendors to final inventory receiving/storage in a timely fashion, while coordinating among key internal stake holders to ensure SOPs (Standard Operation Procedure) are followed and quality protocols are maintained. Identify shipping and delivery problems, solutions, and improvement of related service levels. In addition, this position will have the opportunity to lead a small team of shipping and receiving contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day activities of the Kendall loading docks ensuring effective receipt, storage and handling of product, equipment and services whilst adhering to Alnylam policies and engineering procedures.
- Work with internal stakeholders and external vendors to arrange and execute shipments, both inbound and outbound.
- Coordinate with key internal stake holders to ensure smooth material flow upon arrival until receiving into storage locations.
- Monitor and adhere to all established SOPs and quality protocols, including paperwork, reporting, checklists, system processing and transactional updates.
- Resolve and report discrepancies in shipping, documentation, labelling, and receiving when discovered.
- Ensure materials are staged and stored properly to conserve space, while complying with safety procedures.
- Monitor and coordinate the shipping and receiving team’s training ensuring 100% compliance.
- Ensures the security and accountability of materials and goods by following and leading chain of custody best practices.
- Reviews work throughout the work process and at completion, to ensure that it has been performed properly.
- Packs/ships materials to both domestic and international markets, including HazMat, with appropriate materials to prevent in-transit damage.
- Identifies changes in documentation and procedures as part of continuous improvement, initiate changes and follow through to implementation (training and change control closure).
- Performs and verifies SAP transactions regarding inventoried materials and their movements. Troubleshoot inventory/transaction errors.
- Completes all required forms and/or records as required for material receiving, shipping, and transfer activities.
- Provides oversight and suggestions on special projects such as validation, setup, and process development for shipping and receiving activities.
- Monitor loading dock housekeeping to ensure clean, organized, and safe working environment
- Perform other related duties as directed by management
Qualifications
- High school Diploma / GED. Additional post-secondary education resulting in an Associate’s Degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
- Minimum of 4-8 years in a Shipping and Receiving environment, preferably Life Sciences.
- Knowledge of common shipping and receiving equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective operations for the protection of people, data, and property.
- The individual must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Working knowledge of standard computer-based business systems such as SAP, Excel.
- Previous shipping experience (UPS, FedEx, DHL and freight) highly desirable.
- Hands-on leadership with strong teamwork and result oriented spirit.
- Highly skilled and certified in both DOT and IATA regulations.
- Successful experience in managing own time and the time of others.
- A valid Driver’s License is required.
- Must have full knowledge of the proper use and application of personal protection equipment (PPE).
- May be required to work alternate shift schedules, including shift or weekend coverage.
- If employed in the U.S., being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is required
