Founded in 1971, the Cambridge Women’s Center (CWC) is the oldest continuously running community center for women in the United States.

The Cambridge Women's Center is a community space open to anyone for whom woman is a meaningful identifier or lived experience. We offer a safe space for learning, emotional support, empathy, and empowerment through self-determination. Our community, and the population we serve, is inclusive and we are actively working towards justice for Black, Indigenous, People of Color, LGBTQIA+, those with disabilities and/or mental illness, the unhoused and other Powerful Groups (both national and international) targeted for oppression.

Excited about this mission? Want to make a difference? We are currently seeking a Co-Director of Development and Outreach to oversee raising $300,000 - $400,000 annually from foundations, corporations, and individuals. The role would also include cultivating and soliciting support from individuals, foundations, and corporations, pursuing government and public grants, organizing fundraising events.

Grant-seeking:

  • Write creative and compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, sponsorship requests, impact reports, and communications to funders
  • Maintain an accurate grants calendar, scheduling and tracking all grant activities and deadlines
  • Track all grants received with relevant details, such as how the funds should be allocated
  • Ensure compliance with grant agreements and on-time submission of reports
  • Research new grant opportunities and meet with foundation representatives and stakeholders
  • Include relevant data, financial information, and other statistics in presentations and grant proposals, obtaining information from the Finance Committee and team members.

Fundraising/Development:

  • Maintain and grow the CWC’s individual donor base through personal interaction and written solicitations, including emails, calls, letters, meetings, site visits, and networking events, utilizing CWC Fundraising Volunteers and Interns, here and elsewhere..
  • Maintain and update a tracking system for foundation and individual donor activities using the board reporting template and Little Green Light donor database
  • Create and send out newsletters, appeals and event invitations
  • Record incoming donations in Little Green Light and send timely thank you letters and donation acknowledgement letters to individual donors and foundations
  • Generate monthly fundraising reports, including a Fundraising Committee update for the board

Marketing / Communications:

  • Undertake marketing and public relations campaigns that recognize donors and their impact.
  • Use social media to increase visibility, support CWC program needs, and to promote events and fundraising opportunities
  • Produce two newsletters a year to offer a platform for CWC community members to contribute creative work and updates.

Community Outreach & Advocacy

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and potential stakeholders, including businesses, philanthropists, large donors, elected officials, grassroots activists, key allies, and others
  • Expand the organization’s reach into new communities, and spread awareness of our offerings
  • Meet with staff, members, volunteers, and board members to learn about community needs

Organizational Leadership:

  • Stay accountable to the co-director model by reporting back on individual progress, and by providing feedback and support to other staff members at team meetings
  • Participate in organization-wide strategic planning processes

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience with grant writing, fundraising and/or planning community events
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability using Excel or Google Sheets to create reports and presentations
  • Deep commitment to supporting community members with marginalized identities
  • Ability to work effectively with people from all backgrounds
  • Detail-oriented and able to handle simultaneous long-term and short-term projects
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required
  • People of color are encouraged to apply

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to operate a computer
  • Must be able to stop a task mid-way to attend to an urgent issue before resuming original task
  • Will communicate frequently with Center visitors, volunteers, and staff. Must be able to exchange accurate information and respond to inquiries.

Workplace Environment:

  • Will have access to a shared office space with a door, and some of your time on-site will be spent is drop-in spaces with other people around
  • There will be some background noise (construction work outside) and occasional louder noises (e.g. loud voices, singing, music, TVs) during the hours the Center’s open hours
  • May work remotely much of the time as long as collaboration with coworkers is maintained

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $58,000. The salaries of all staff are equal, so the salary is non-negotiable. Benefits include paid time off and health insurance fully paid by the employer (dental insurance not included).
