COMMUNICATIONS AND EVENTS OFFICERSchwarzman College of Computing-Laboratory for Information and Decision  Systems (LIDS), to promote the cutting-edge research underway at LIDS through targeted media outreach, news articles, social media, and digital and print communications.  Will collaborate with LIDS leadership on oversight of the website, managing its social media presence, and content creation for digital/print products; play a key role in increasing alumni engagement through stewardship, coordinating initiatives, and developing alumni-specific content; plan, promote, implement, and evaluate major events and manage their communications portions; serve as a resource for faculty and staff on event planning strategy, developing strategic plans for events, and managing the logistical details such as event budgets, collateral, venues, etc.; and perform other duties as assigned.  

 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in communications, English, or related field; five years’ experience, preferably in corporate/marketing communications; success planning and implementing communications strategies; excellent organizational, research, analytical, communication, and interviewing skills; thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, punctuation, and editorial style guidelines; ability to develop, assess, and synthesize information from a wide range of academic areas in order to develop strategically appropriate communications and translate technical content for a non-technical audience; attention to detail; good judgment with confidential information; knowledge of web content strategy and best practices; facility social media and website management tools, e.g., Joomla or other CMS software, ResearchGate, etc.; proficiency with PowerPoint and Microsoft Office; and willingness to learn new skills/software applications.  Must be able to prioritize, juggle simultaneous tasks, and meet deadlines; exercise independent decision-making; collaborate as a team member; and build rapport with staff, the MIT community, and other external constituencies.
