Position Summary:

Tutoring Plus of Cambridge is a local nonprofit that provides free tutoring, mentoring and enrichment programs to students in grades 4-12. Our programs advance educational equity by supporting youth in their academic, personal and social growth. Our vision is a world where every young person is empowered with the knowledge and confidence to create their future.

The Program Associate reports to the Education Program Manager and will lead elementary, middle, and/or high school program sites for four nights per week. The Program Associate will work closely with all program staff to provide high-quality programming. This position requires youth work experience, strong interpersonal skills, program management ability, ability to take initiative, and flexibility. Duties and responsibilities broadly support program quality and operations.

Responsibilities

Programming

  • Lead elementary, middle and/or high school programs 4 nights per week and help to create a safe and structured environment for all youth and volunteers
  • Monitor and facilitate small group and one-on-one mentoring and academic sessions
  • Develop positive relationships with young people in our programs and conduct individual student support for behavioral or academic challenges
  • Provide individualized support for volunteer-student matches, including finding resources or sharing best practices for working with specific students

Student Recruitment

  • Support Education Program Manager in student recruitment and registration process
  • Facilitate the enrollment process for a caseload of returning and new students

Curriculum

  • Support the development and implementation of our social-emotional learning (SEL) and critical consciousness curriculum
  • Attend and participate in required trainings and meetings to assist with program implementation

Administrative

  • Provide in-office support including preparing supplies, data entry, and collection
  • Support Volunteer Manager in ongoing student-volunteer matching process
  • Participate in program evaluations and annual Quality Improvement System (QIS) process
  • Attend relevant community meetings and events to represent the organization
  • Liaise with community partners including schools, families, other OST programs and other service providers to promote holistic programmatic outcomes
  • Other organizational tasks as assigned

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a minimum of three years of relevant experience
  • Commitment to goals and mission of Tutoring Plus
  • Experience working with youth and desire to deepen youth work skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to take initiative when needed
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact appropriately with students, families, volunteers and community partners
  • Familiarity with Google Suite and online platforms
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to changing situations, including a varied work location schedule
  • Sense of humor

Hours and Compensation

  • Typical week will be 35-40 hours, M-Th from 10am-7:30pm; flexible Fridays
  • Salaried position at $41,000
  • Dental insurance coverage plus partial health insurance premium reimbursement
  • 12 paid holidays each calendar year and flexible vacation time over school holidays and summer
